The Secret to Internet Marketing

Nothing Exists Without Imagination.

It is a wonderful experience and a great adventure to make conscious use of knowledge. To have a goal that we can plant in our mind and see it gradually take form. Taking something from our imagination and turning it into a reality, is what gives pleasure. Age is a state of mind using our imagination and creative powers keep us young. We imagine a goal and use our intelligence to create it. It’s the Law of Cause and Effect.

Are You Educated?

An educated man is one who has developed the faculties of his mind, that he may acquire anything he wants or its equivalent, without violating the rights of others. It has been proven time and again that the educated man may rise to high positions or remain at the bottom, because of conditions he can control if he desires to.

Unlimited Opportunity

There is a universal demand and an ever-increasing opportunity for the person capable of helping Men and Women to sell their personal products or services advantageously. By capability, I refer to the imagination, the one quality needed to combine specialized knowledge with ideas.

The Future is Internet Marketing

If you have imagination Internet Marketing will present you with ideas sufficient to achieve anything you desire. It has been said that man can create anything which he can imagine. Man’s only limitation lies in the development and use of his imagination. Give a man a fish and eats for a day, show a man how to fish and he eats for a lifetime.

Ideas Come in Two Forms

Synthetic Imagination, by far the most widely used form, this is where you merely rearrange old concepts, ideas, or plans into new combinations. Nothing is created, it is only a combination of experience, education and observation.

Creative Imagination, less used but certainly available this is where the finite mind of man has direct communication with infinite intelligence. It is this faculty through which “hunches” and “intuition” are received. It is through this faculty that one individual may “tune in” or communicate with the subconscious minds of other men.

The Secret

Everything began as an intangible form of energy and will return to energy. Everything in the universe emits a vibration, the higher the vibration the more power it has. Emotions (feelings), because they are energy emit vibrations. These Emotions create thousands of thoughts, strengthening the original Emotion. These vibrations, create powerful attractor patterns that both transmit and attract throughout the universe. They attract and are attracted to energies with the same dominant attractor pattern.

The Mind

The Mind has no dimensions or size and it’s not limited in space, therefore the Mind transmits its basic state via vibrational energy over an unlimited distance. (see quantum physics) These emotions emit a vibrational energy field that affects and determines the people who are in our lives (like with like). The mind is, basically, a survival mechanism, and its method of survival is primarily the use of emotions. Thoughts are engendered by the emotions and, eventually, emotions become shorthand for thoughts. Thousands and even millions of thoughts can be replaced by a single emotion.

Emotions are more basic and primitive than mental processes. Reason is the tool the mind uses to achieve its emotional ends. When used by the intellect, the basic underlying emotion is usually unconscious or at least out of awareness. When the underlying emotion is forgotten or ignored and not experienced, people are unaware of the reason for their actions and they develop all kinds of plausible reasons. In fact, they frequently do not know why they are doing what they are doing. According to David Hawkins, in his book, “Power vs. Force; The Hidden Determinates of Human Behavior”, emotional energies directly correspond to certain “Levels of Consciousness”. As a general rule, people who are carrying the consciousness of apathy bring poverty circumstances into there lives and those with a prosperity consciousness bring abundance into their lives.

You Are Not Your Thoughts

As I’ve already said one emotion can illicit thousands of thoughts. We see that emotions directly correspond to certain conscious energies. We must let go of the thoughts and focus on the feeling itself. Thoughts are endless and they only breed more thoughts that only go to reinforce the original feeling.

Be Aware

Become aware of the feeling behind the thought. Once you realize that you are not your feelings, that the real you is merely witnessing them, you stop identifying with them. You see that they are not the truth about yourself, but merely programs created by the ego. This growth in consciousness allows you to undo the ego. We see that emotions are connected to what our ego believes will ensure our survival, not with what actually will.

Attract What You Want

The relative weight and merit we give to anything in the Universe is determined by the predominant attractor pattern operating in you or in your collective group of minds at the time. Knowing how to change the energy level of your consciousness, can change your life.

Your Reality is Your Opinion

The truth of each level of consciousness is self-verifying, in that each level has its native range of perception, which confirms what’s already believed to be true. A statement may be true at a high level of understanding but be distorted by the limitations of the listener, based on their predominate level of consciousness. Everyone feels justified in the viewpoints that underlie his actions, beliefs, and opinions. Our perceptions are distorted by our own self-definition, which in turn is qualified by identifying with our limitations. The error occurs when we cling to the belief that I am “that.” The truth is unveiled when we see that one has “that” or does “that,” instead of is “that.”

The Levels of Consciousness, (from the top-down)

  • Peace (Level 600); This level is experienced as perfection, bliss, effortlessness, and oneness. It is a state of non-duality, beyond separateness and intellect, as in the “peace that passeth all understanding.” It is described as illumination and enlightenment. It is rare in the human realm.
  • Joy (540); Love that is unconditional and unchanging despite circumstances and the actions of others. A sense of self-completion and self-sufficiency prevails.
  • Love (500); A way of being that is forgiving, nurturing, and supportive. As perception is replaced with vision, it takes no position and sees the intrinsic value and lovability in all that exists.
  • Reason (400); The ability to see things in the abstract. To conceptualize while being objective. Able to make rapid and correct decisions.
  • Acceptance (350); This energy is easy going and laid back, harmonious, flexible, inclusive, and free of inner resistance. It meets life on life terms. There is no need to blame others.
  • Willingness (310); This energy promotes survival by virtue of a positive attitude that welcomes all expressions of life. Seeks to be of service.
  • Neutrality (250); “It’s ok either way.” This energy is free of any rigid positions. It is non-judgmental and non-competitive.
  • Courage (200): This energy says “I can do it!” It is determined and excited about life. This energy level is productive, independent, and self-empowered.Effective action is possible.
  • Pride (175): “My way is the best way.” Its focus is on achievement, a desire for recognition, specialness, and perfection. It comes with a sense of superiority and entitlement.
  • Anger (150): This energy primarily works at overcoming fear by either force, threat, or attack. This energy is irritable, explosive, bitter, volatile, and resentful. It likes to, “get even”, as in, “I’ll show you.”
  • Desire (125): This energy is always seeking to gain acquisition, pleasure, and something for nothing. This energy is insatiable and never satisfied. It is always craving “I’ve got to have it.” Give me what I want and give it to me now.
  • Fear (100): This energy sees danger everywhere. It is avoidant, defensive and preoccupied with its own security. It is possessive, jealous and vigilant to any perceived threat.
  • Grief (75): This is the level of helplessness, despair, loss, and regret. The predominant thought is “if only I had”. A feeling of separation, depression, and sadness.
  • Apathy (50): This energy field is characterized by overall hopelessness. You feel as if your a “drain” on others. Lethargic with a total sense of “I can’t” and “who cares”. Poverty is common at this level.
  • Guilt (30): At this level of consciousness one wants to punish and be punished. This level is one of self-rejection, remorse, and self-sabotage. A tendency to project self-hatred onto “evil” others. The basis of many psychosomatic illnesses.
  • Shame (20): Characterized by humiliation, as in “hanging your head in shame.” It is destructive to health and leads to cruelty to self and others.

Your Vibration 200 or Better

For self-empowerment to occur it’s necessary to reach a predominate energy level of 200. At lower levels the world is still seen as frightening and frustrating, it’s only through 200 that we are able to transcend from the role of victim to that of a creator. At the conscious level of courage, it becomes apparent that what the world calls the Domain of Causes is, in fact, the Domain of Effects.

With Power Comes Responsibility

Way before Ernest Henley wrote, “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.” Ancient Philosophers already knew that our brains become magnetized with the dominating thoughts which we hold in our minds, and, by means with which no man is familiar, these “magnets” attract to us the forces, the people, the circumstances of life which harmonize with the nature of our dominating thoughts. This realization, that we attract the life we predominately think about, puts a tremendous amount of power at our disposal, along with great responsibility

Trying to Market an Intangible

Learning Internet Marketing, is a conscious raising experience, of both surrender and acceptance. The biggest and by far the most beneficial aspect of learning this technology (to me personally) has been like having a spiritual experience of the intellectual variety, the surrender of my preconceived beliefs and accepting that life is lived from the inside out. Without this change in your level of consciousness, the learning curve is just to steep, for all but the most determined.

Taking Responsibility; A Psychological Problem

I’ve written extensively about Personality Disorders, specifically Narcissism. I wondered why a  Personality Disorder wasn’t classified as a Neurosis and why it is so hard to treat. I come to find that it revolves around responsibility, both conditions are disorders of responsibility, and represent opposite ways of viewing the world.

The neurotic assumes too much responsibility, while the person with the personality disorder not enough. When neurotics are in conflict with the world they automatically assume they are at fault. When addicts and others with personality disorders have a problem with the world they automatically assume that the world is at fault.

Neurotics respond more readily to psychotherapy because they assume responsibility for their difficulties. Those with personality disorders are much more difficult, if not impossible to work with because they don’t see themselves as the source of their problems. They see the world as being in need of change and fail to recognize the necessity for self-examination.

Neurotics because of their willingness to assume responsibility may make excellent parents if the neurosis is relatively mild. People with Personality Disorders make disastrous parents, often treating their children with vicious destructiveness, simply because they duck responsibility.

Parents with a Personality Disorder serve as role models of irresponsibility and almost invariably produce personality disordered or neurotic children. It is the parents themselves who visit their sins upon their children.

Inevitably these problems with responsibility extend into all aspects of life because no problem can be solved until an individual recognizes and accepts appropriate responsibility. As long as we unrealistically blame ourselves or others for our problems we will be unable to solve the basic problem of living, which is distinguishing what we are and what we are not responsible for.

How to Grow You

Forced to Grow

In the online world its consistent output of high quality, well thought out, content and constant website optimization and improvement, that will get you to where you want to go. You can get there only by knowing when it’s time to take a break, step away, and get a fresh perspective. For most of us, this is forced on us when we simply run into a wall or out of gas, but for those who understand how to problem solve, and have the mental discipline, they are often able to turn roadblocks and problems, into productive and beneficial times of reflection and growth.

Problems Give Life Meaning

Having the wisdom, of constructively turning problems to your advantage, and taking any perceived blockage or problem, as an opportunity to learn, and reset your creative imagination, is as crucial to success in internet marketing as it is in life. It is exactly this process of meeting and solving problems that give life meaning.

Welcome Problems

As Scott Peck said in his book, The Road Less Traveled, “Problems are the cutting edge that distinguishes between success and failure. Problems call forth our courage and our wisdom, indeed they create our courage and wisdom. It is only because of problems that we grow mentally and spiritually… It is for this reason that wise people learn not to dread but to actually welcome problems and actually to welcome the pain of problems.

Being able to perform this mental alchemy is crucial to being successful in this ever-changing online world. It can’t be overstated, utilization of our divine intelligence to problem solve, is how we develop both mentally and spiritually. The real causes of all our troubles lie within ourselves. The only enemies we have to overcome in the long run are our own fears, doubts, selfishness and so forth.

It’s your Choice

As Emmet Fox said in his book, Power Through Constructive Thinking, “The most important of all factors in your life is the mental diet in which you live. It is the food which you furnish your mind that determines the whole character of your life…You choose your life, that is to say, you choose all the conditions of your life, when you choose the thoughts upon which you allow your mind to dwell. The thought is the real causative force in life, and there is no other. You cannot have one kind of mind and another kind of environment.” A stingy person only sees a stingy world.

Problems Emerge from Feelings

Focus your thoughts on the feelings beneath your thoughts for it is through our feelings that thoughts emerge. One Feeling can create thousands of thoughts. The thoughts reinforce and strengthen the feelings, they are often automatic and repetitive.

Change your Feeling, Change your thoughts

Being aware of the feelings beneath your thoughts, allows you to consciously change that feeling. Be aware and you can instantly change a feeling of scarcity, to one of abundance and subsequently all the thoughts that come with that feeling.

Feelings and Thoughts have Energy

Like attracts like. All feelings and their resultant thoughts have corresponding energy levels. These energy levels form attractor patterns and are the basis for “The Secret”. The goal in life is to continuously raise our energy levels, you can only do this through awareness. Strange and paradoxical as it may seem, the “secret” is not a secret.

It’s Easy

It can’t be that easy you say, who told you it was hard I ask. I help Boomers see opportunities were before they saw none. God’s Will for us is to be happy and prosper. Be happy by choosing what your feeling at any particular moment and your prosperity is assured. You hold the keys to the kingdom.

Internet Marketing is the future, you can do it from anywhere, and it’s fun. If you want to see your future click .

What Comes First, a Feeling or a Thought?

Thoughts Follow Feelings

In AA, I heard the phrase right action leads to right thinking. I could never shake the idea that it was right thinking that leads to right action. With further research, I come to find out that thoughts are merely rationalizations by the ego to try and explain the feeling. But instead of explaining the feeling, constant thought on it only strengthens the feeling and the underlying lies the ego uses to explain it.

Pre-Supposition, It is the accumulated pressure of feelings that causes thought.

A[[ feelings are caused by six fears they are,

  1. The fear of poverty
  2. The fear of criticism
  3. The fear of ill health
  4. The fear of loss of love
  5. The fear of old age
  6. The fear of death

Thoughts Breed Thoughts

Thoughts are merely survival programs associated with the feelings that the mind believes are necessary. Thoughts are merely rationalizations of the mind to try and explain the presence of the feeling. These thoughts are endless and self-reinforcing and they only breed more thoughts. The mind (ego) wants to keep us enslaved by its programs. Thoughts are the resistance that keeps the feeling going. A feeling that is not resisted will disappear

We handle feelings three ways

  1. Through suppression and repression
  2. Through expression
  3. Through escape

Negative Feelings Create Pressure

These ways of handling feelings are faulty, stressful and ineffectual. Each method requires increasing amounts of energy to keep down the growing pressure of our negative feelings. There is a progressive loss of awareness and growth. There is a loss of creativity, energy and a real interest in others. There is no spiritual growth and eventually, we develop physical and emotional illnesses, and we age.

We Affect Others

The projections of these repressed feelings result in social problems, disorders, and the increase of selfishness and callousness in our society. Most damning is the inability to love, which leads to isolation and self-hatred.

One Feeling can have Thousands of Thoughts

The thoughts associated with even one feeling may literally run into the thousands. The understanding of the underlying feeling beneath the thoughts and its correct handling is, therefore, more rewarding and less time-consuming, then dealing with one’s thoughts.

Feelings create Thoughts

Fears lead to a feeling, which causes the conscious mind (ego)  to look outside itself for a reason for the feeling, all the while this thinking only reinforces and strengthens the feeling. The ego thrives on conflict, it loves to pit you against the world. The ego believes life is lived from the outside in. Spiritualists and Religious scholars all agree that life is lived from the inside out.

Like goes with Like

Finally, every feeling emits energy, either positive or negative. these different energies constellate into attractor patterns or levels of consciousness. Simply put “like goes with like”. Having an understanding of your feelings attractor patterns will help you control your thoughts.

Five Ways to Eliminate Worry

How to Eliminate Worry

As opposed to attacking worry head, I propose a much easier more oblique approach. But before you can do this you have to quiet your mind. Stop taking any drugs, and try to eliminate as much background noise as possible, this includes but is not limited to, gossip, newspapers, tv, heavy metal or rap music and certain forms of the internet. If you start this new regimen of watching what you put in your head as much as what your putting in your body, within a week or so your mind will quiet down sufficiently enough to begin.

ONE. Start carefully listening to yourself, take note and study intently everything you say or think, become conscious of the amazing number of doleful and negative remarks you are constantly uttering, either out loud or to yourself. Observe how little time you spend in the present moment. You’re not going to like what you find out. It will be a revelation of just how little time you spend in the present and how negative and depressing you sound.

TWO. Be honest with yourself and ask “do I honestly believe what I’m saying or thinking?” or am I just mouthing and thinking negativism because I either falsely believe it serves me in some way, or I’m simply conditioned to respond in a certain way, like an automaton.

THREE. Start to adopt the practice of trying to say or think the exact opposite of what you originally thought. This will be very difficult at first because we are addicted to the process of ready, shoot, aim, but with practice, it becomes easier and easier. As you practice this it becomes a pleasure to start hearing positive remarks coming out of your mouth or head as opposed to the same old negative self-defeating bullshit you’ve been telling yourself or others for god knows how many years.

FOUR. Keep track and take note of the way you feel and how others react to you. Instead of saying I feel “ok”, or “hanging in there”, when someone asks you how your feeling, say, “I feel great” or “fantastic”! You’ll be amazed, the effect this simple response will have on you and others, especially if you can sound enthusiastic.

FIVE. Be the cause of the effect you desire. Trust God and help others. Do this and you’ll actually start stimulating good outcomes. By being proactive with your words and deeds instead of reactive you gain power and worry will disappear.

For Want of a Leader

We Need a Visonary

The Country is crying out for Leadership. A charismatic visonary who can bring people together in a common cause, with a common vision. Someone who has the vision and the ability to affect incremental change across a wide spectrum of issues. The problem with the Democrat Party is that it’s leaders are trying to be all things to all people. When you try to be all things to all people, you end up being nothing to anyone.

The Problem with the Green New Deal

The problem with everyone’s Green New Deal is exactly that, trying to be everything to everybody. Rolling out incomprehensible plans, at the incomprehensible expense is not a vision any of them can articulate. Trying to change our whole economy, while trying to answer every environmental problem facing America is simply illogical and not doable. What is needed is a systematic incremental plan with easily definable goals and targets. If they would focus on the biggest issue first, everything else would fall into place naturally.

Replace a Obsolete Technology

The biggest issue I see is to replace the obsolete technology of carbon based energy with a cleaner alternative electric energy. And the number one user of carbon based energy is the automobile. Simply changing the obsolete internal combustion engine with an electric alternative would create a cascading effect that would change our economy and the worlds.

Auto Industry Bailout

We have bailed out the Auto Industry before and we can do it again if they agree to work toward the common good. Otherwise the Government can open its own Automotive plant.

The common good is to

  • Design an electric engine for long term sustainability (10 years 200,000 miles warranty) and affordability.
  • Standardized power plant design would ensure components could be used in all models.
  • The standardized power plant design would not be patented and would  be used to build all models with interchangeable components used in all models.
  • The offerings would be economy, intermediate, luxury, suv, truck, Semi, Bus.

Infrastructure agreements would be to

  • Start replacing one bay of pumps to standardized electric charging stations in every Gas station in the country.
  • Expand existing Solar panel rollout to businesses and residential properties including installing stardized charging stations in homes and parking facilities nationwide.
  • Mag line technology connecting airports. 500 miles per hour makes plane obsolete.
  • Increase Solar power plants nation wide converting oil refineries where possible

Electric Power is Cheaper and Cleaner

Based on current estimates on the cost of kilowatt-hours, it would cost approx 600.00 a year to charge your car to drive 15,000 miles. Currently, consumers are paying approx. 2,600 a year to fill a tank once a week.. Raise the standard of living while cleaning the environment.

No Demand and the Price of Oil Drops

Based on supply and demand the U.S. would be able to drop the price of oil it is exporting, to 75.00 a barrel and eventually 50.00 a barrel (probably in five years).  A percentage of every barrel price goes to offsetting infrastructure expense.

Become the Worlds Largest Exporter of Oil

Under cutting all competition we would quickly become, the worlds largest exporter of oil. This would change the geopolitics of the oil industry worldwide and give us revenue to start infrastructure changes at home and abroad. Utilize our position of power to help other nations reduce their oil dependence. Decreasing the worlds dependence on OPEC nations and substantially changing OPEC’s ability to hold the world ransom to fluctuating oil prices based on world tensions would only improve market stability.

It’s Just the Beginning

Cost of converting this obsolete industry would be hugh and take a minimum of ten years. But the savings in converting to a cheaper more eco-friendly technology would be quickly realized and felt by everyone. As the fossil fuel industry becomes more obsolete the expense of maintaining it’s infrastructure can be diverted to other industry needs.

How to Stay Young and Slow the Aging Process

The four secrets of successful aging are.

  • Appreciate your reality
  • Challenge your body
  • Stimulate your intellect
  • Nurture your spirit

While all are important, for the purpose of this blog, I’d like to focus on stimulating the intellect.

The qualities needed to stimulate the intellect.

  • Overall health
  • Clarity of intention
  • Level of attention

Attention to Our Intention

Maintaining our health both spiritually and physically is obvious, what’s not obvious is the clarity of intention, of our conscious will, and the level of attention, to the maintenance of our mental focus. Our brains are well-equipped and actually need to be challenged, no matter our age.

The Why Beneath the Why

Our intentions determine our experience. It’s the why beneath the why. There is a big difference between an intention to get rich and make a lot of money or to help people live a better life. Our intention affects the basic laws of Cause and Effect and Attraction. Eve, our intention is unknown to us it will always have the same consequence. If our intention is to make money, then we are only interested in ourselves, if our intention is to help someone live a better life then we are interested in others, One is based in fear and one is based in love.

Fear and Love

Fear is in pursuit of external power (money), it raises and crushes hopes, it exhilarates and disappoints, it succeeds or fails. Love is the pursuit of authentic power (a better life), it fulfills and uplifts, validates and empowers. If your intention is the pursuit of external power you will attract people who are only interested in making money, they only see the world as either win or lose. They are impatient, with expectations, needing instant gratification, and when success isn’t immediate they quit. If your intention is the pursuit of authentic power you’ll attract people who are empowered and fulfilled by uplifting others. There is no false agenda, therefore they can delay gratification. They are patient and get fulfillment through the incremental improvement of themselves and others.

Learning Easier The Ever

Attention to your intention, will improve the experience, when learning new skills or a body of knowledge. There are many ways to gain knowledge. In my blog, “The Future of Learning”, I wrote “Technology is making it possible now for those that can, to also teach.
The future of Learning in the 21st Century is where successful entrepreneurs will use a Mastermind approach, utilizing internet communities, workshops and groups to teach their targeted market the skills they currently use. They will either promote themselves, virtually or in person, as the expert, reporter or broker of the skills desired.”

It Takes a Community

Web sites like Wealthy are examples of an internet community, created by entrepreneurs, to teach others the skills they have. To be a member of such a community and to learn a new skill set, it’s important to manage our emotions. Emotions and intellect are tightly interwoven. By becoming aware of our emotions we realize that we can control them only by being mindful of them. It’s through mindfulness that we begin to subordinate our reflexive emotional reactions.

Doing something meaningful and having a sense of purpose, strongly influences our emotional state. The satisfaction you gain by doing something meaningful, gives you self-definition, builds self-esteem and keeps you young. Without a sense of purpose, negative emotions like worry, anxiety, depression, and loneliness can go unchecked. Having these emotions ages you.

Challenge Yourself

By challenging ourselves to learn new skills and knowledge, we better appreciate the world, and our place in it. To many allow themselves to come to a virtual intellectual standstill, by the absence of a meaningful challenge. This absence of a challenge kills the desire to know and leads to depression and an overall depreciation in mental dexterity, and we age. Learning new skills brings freedom and a challenging state of mind, that improves our ability to solve problems. When learning stops, time closes around us, and we age.

The Mind of God

In the book by Maxwell Maltz called “Psycho-Cybernetics”. He talked about identifying erroneous and restrictive programming embedded in the self-image and that we could systematically alter it to better suit our purposes. I was reminded of the mind being of two parts, psychology and skills. 20% was skill based, gathering info and 80% was psychology based, controlling behavior and emotions. He talked about the mind being an automatic success mechanism and how it was important to get the conscious mind in line with the unconscious mind. We do this by using our imagination to set the goal (picture) then letting the automatic mechanism work on it.

The Map is Not the Territory

In relating a story about a successful sales man, he explained that the salesman didn’t see failure as a blow to the ego but as a learning tool. He also said that we have a mental image of ourselves and the world and people around us, and that we behave as though these images are true. See the supposition “the map is not the territory” in my blog on Neuro Linguistic Programming. He goes into recognizing how negative self talk imprints into our subconscious mind (that doesn’t know it’s not real). I wrote a blog on how this can be the hardest habit a person can ever break. Maltz went on to talk about how failure is only an opinion and not a fact and only calls for adjustments and re calibration. You can do this through visualization.

Picture in your Mind

The mind thinks in pictures, not words. As we vividly picture in our minds what we desire, it will become a reality. Create an exciting picture of the future. Most people don’t have a clear picture of what they want. At best, it’s fuzzy. Write down the most important reasons for accomplishing your goal, and the biggest benefit you will receive upon completion. Big reasons keep you young, and are the driving force that keeps you going, when the going gets tough. We are able to stay young and slow the aging process by creating goals and having big reasons in achieving them. Successfully accomplishing your goals takes energy, effort and concentrated thinking. That’s why it’s important to be connected to what you’re working towards and it shouldn’t be only about money!

Your Goals Should Be,

  1. Yours
  2. Meaningful.
  3. Specific and measurable.
  4. Flexible.
  5. Challenging and exciting.
  6. In alignment with your core values.
  7. Well balanced.
  8. Contributing to society.
  9. Realistic.
  10. Supported

Cause and Effect

It is a wonderful experience and a great adventure to make conscious use of knowledge. To have a goal that we can plant in our mind and see it gradually take form. Taking something from our imagination and turning it into a reality, is what gives pleasure. Age is a state of mind using our imagination and creative powers keeps us young. We imagine a goal and use our intelligence to create it. It’s the Law of Cause and Effect.

Dementia; The Irrational Fear of

Brain Scans Being Ignored

Why does the medical establishment promote Colonoscopy and Prostate Testing while ignoring Brain Scans? Especially when incidences of Dementia, rival and often exceed, the incidences of these other afflictions?  When you consider that a Brain Scan is less invasive then a Colonoscopy, it doesn’t make sense.

Why We Are Afraid

The reason everyone shies away from Brain scans is based on three dis-empowering beliefs. The first is a hold over from the old Cartesian Mind-Body Dualism Theory, that the Mind is not of the Body. The other belief, that’s still very prevalent is that nothing can be done, if a problem where to be found. Lastly most of us have an irrational fear and would be devastated if a brain scan found even mild brain damage, thinking it a harbinger of Dementia and even Alzheimer’s Disease.

Promote Brain Health

Medicine has long refuted the Cartesian Theory having proved that the Mind is of the Brain and thus of the Body. And with regards to not being able to do anything, recent and rapid advances in pharmacological and non-pharmacological ways of both protecting and healing the Brain have been developed. The idea that nothing can be done is both dangerous and false. Eliminating these ideas would go along way in reducing the fear people have.

It’s an Irrational Fear

Even more dis-empowering then the belief systems just mentioned, is the neurotic fear, Boomers have of Dementia. Most aging Boomers either deny the possibility that anything could be wrong or just accept as inevitable, that the brain gets weaker with age, often refusing to even consider a scan, until it’s to late. And who can blame them, when they are constantly bombarded, with the Media’s preoccupation with Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia.

Change the Belief

The false belief that our Brains and thus our Minds become weaker or slower as we age must be changed. The idea that decreased Brain function is not only probable but inevitable is wrong. These dis-empowering beliefs need to be replaced with more empowering and accurate beliefs. While it’s true that our Brain changes as we age, there is mounting evidence that it gets better not worse.

Cognitive Expertise

In Elkhonon Goldberg’s books “The Wisdom Paradox” and “The Executive Brain” he talks about “cognitive expertise”. He holds that as we age, we may lose some power in memory and sustained concentration, but that we gain expertise and competence in our ability to see patterns, in seemingly unrelated events. He refers to  “cognitive templates”, that once formed, are easily able to recognize new cognitive challenges, and easily assimilate them into current situations. We often refer to this ability as pattern recognition. And according to Goldberg, this is nothing to sneer about.

Better Neural Capacity

He says as we age our brains slowly transition from a “hardwired” format to a more  “open minded” format. This opens our neural capacity to better process complexities of all types and to find context. This ability to “see through things” is seemingly effortless and depending upon the context it’s recognized by observers as competence, expertise and in rare instances wisdom.

It’s Not Automatic

This ability doesn’t come as an epiphany of maturity or as an entitlement for living a long time, but rather as the result of mental activities across years and decades of life. Goldberg believes empathically, as many others do, that the real protection against the effects of aging, is to always be in forward motion, to always be challenging the intellect with new goals and new learning. We should use what Maxwell Maltz called our “automatic success mechanism” to imagine and create goals to attain. No matter what age, we must wage an unending war on stasis. As Goldberg so succinctly stated, “a life to settled is no longer a life, but an afterlife”. He believes that the scope and quality of a persons mental lifetime, will shape the quality of it’s final stages.

The Reading Crisis

Socrates said “wisdom begins in wonder”. It’s a crisis when studies show, 28% of people over fifty haven’t read a book in the past year, or that this same percentage have never been to a public library. What’s even more concerning is that the same study, stated that 33% of high school graduates, never read another book for the rest of their lives. But the most shocking finding is that 42% of college graduates never read another book after college.

The Importance of Reading

The fact that 80% of U.S. families did not buy or read a book last year, and that 70% of U.S. adults have not been in a bookstore in the last five years. Doesn’t say much about our desire to improve our mental quality. This is especially disconcerting when research shows that reading not only helps maintain fluid intelligence, but comprehension and emotional intelligence as well.

The Learning Failure

Another disturbing statistic comes from the On-Line Learning Industry, an industry that has grown from 107 billion to 255 billion in just the last two years. It’s estimated that the completion rate for on-line courses is 15%. In my blog “The Future of Learning”, I wrote how traditional Colleges and Universities are failing.   But with a 85% dropout rate, are traditional on-line courses doing any better?

Transformation not Information

In this information overload age, Boomers don’t want more information, what they are looking for is transformation. The ability to get from point A to point B, as quickly and efficiently as possible. Far to many Boomers, have allowed themselves to fall into intellectual stasis. They are either to impatient to learn new skills, using the current available means or feel it’s to late to contribute.

Show Me Don’t Teach Me.

Thankfully we are seeing a new form of Learning emerge. Entrepreneurial on-line courses created and designed by Entrepreneurs willing and able to teach what they do, not what they learned, and to show you step by step how they do it. Using a social media template, they are also able to create a vibrant on-line community interested and supportive of each others success. Technology has cut out the middle man, allowing entrepreneurs to show, not teach, what they have done to be successful.

Transform your Dream into Reality

The power to challenge the effects of aging with new learning has never been greater. As we change the paradigms of learning, both on-line and off-line, real transformation becomes possible, especially for Boomers. What once took years to learn now takes months. Instances of dementia will decrease as more Boomers transform their dreams into reality.

Suffering is a Choice

Must We Always Suffer

Western Religions tell us that suffering purifies us, and that we must expect suffering to always be in our lives because of our sinful natures. They believe the world is made on the basis of struggle and that struggle is inevitably attended by difficulty, often pain and hardship. The Bible says “Man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward” Job 5:7 and in St. John 16:33 “In the world ye shall have tribulation”. The theme being that the chief duty of a human being is to endure life.It doesn’t feel right, that we should not only endure suffering but we are to expect it to always be present in our lives.

We Create Our Suffering

A more humane approach is through Eastern Religion, that tells us we suffer only as long as we stay unenlightened. The Tao is Tao, 79 states “The ignorant create their own agonies, when they allow their desire, greed and hatred to turn the fiction in their minds into the reality of suffering”. The Tao believes most forms of suffering are the results of inventions of our own minds, and our inability to deal with our thoughts (beliefs) and emotions. That attachment and ego are closely linked and that they are the main causes of suffering. They encourage perpetual action to satisfy their insatiable needs. They believe that the main problems of suffering lies in the “sphere of the spirit”, and that they are problems of the mind.

The False Self

The Tao holds that you don’t have to search for meaning, just rid yourself of negative dis-empowering beliefs. That the meaning of life is life itself. If you live this way you will fill the world with beauty and meaning. Cease being run by dis-empowering beliefs, only then will the essential tolerance on a spiritual level be possible. The sooner we accept the realm of the spirit, as part of reality, the sooner real solutions will become possible. Let go of your false self.

Suffering is Optional

Another interesting approach is found in the Hindu religion as expressed in the Bhagavad Gita . They believe suffering is optional , and through awareness we can improve our level of consciousness. That man has a choice. So instead of being doomed to endure a life of suffering, if we change our beliefs we can be one with life. We can create our life. as expressed in Samkhya, an orthodox Hindu philosophy, that teaches salvation through knowledge of the dualism of matter and souls.

We Consciously Create

The Samkhya philosophy systematically deciphers every part of our being, from the lowest level of moral existence to the highest level of eternal consciousness and spirit. Of the 25 elements, two are the source from which the whole universe evolves, consciousness or Purusha, the eternal reality and nature or Prakriti, pure creative power.

Our Consciousness Can Evolve

Within both Purusha and Prakriti, are three fundamental forces called Gunas. The evolution of consciousness begins with an awareness of the predominate Guna within us. Attachment to a predominate Guna leads the self either into enlightenment or into suffering. the three Gunas are as follows.

  1. Tamas (inertia) the vast unconscious, posses great power but is inaccessible to the will.
  2. Rajas (activity) the ordinary mind, that races along, desiring, worrying, resenting and competing. It has power but it’s uncontrolled and egocentric.
  3. Sattva (harmony) the higher mind detached, self-controlled. unity of purpose, character and desire.

Takes a Strong Desire or Need to Change

These are only rough translations, for the Gunas have no equivalent in any other philosophy. The concept of the Gunas is an analysis of both personality and matter differences. But none are cast in a rigid mold that limits our capacity to grow or matter to change. We can change ourselves completely if we really want to, or need to, but we must have a strong desire or need to change the direction of our lives., and swim against the current of our conditioning.

Strive for Harmony

To change we must change inertia and apathy (Tamas) into energy (rajas). It takes effort to overcome the inertia of Tamas. We must then channel that energy into the selfless actions of harmony (Sattva).  Only when our energies are per-predominately Sattva, can we hope to unlock the door to the kingdom of heaven.

Levels of Consciousness

Lets take a closer look at these levels of consciousness. Those that are easily overcome by inertia, who procrastinate, who have little energy and cannot bring themselves to do what’s worthwhile, whose actions say ” I don’t care, what does it matter” are per-predominately Tamas. Those with plenty of energy for compulsive activities, who are always on the go but with no particular direction, who have tempestuous passions and appetites, but no will to control them, Raja is per-dominate.And those that give their time and energy freely to help others, who are “slow to wrath”. and quick to forgive, who have the ability to use the energy latent in everyone and harness it for the welfare of all, these people have attained Sattva.

Pain Assisted Institution

Step by step, sometimes over decades, by making selfless choices, we can ascend the “bright path”, that leads to the “kingdom of heaven”. We don’t start life with virtue, no one does. We simply do our best and strive to be better. As we practice, we become stronger. Life is a pain assisted institution, (PAI) we often learn through pain. It is often through the consequences of our actions that we learn the most valuable lessons.

Lack of Power was my Dilemma.

Something was Missing

I had been sober for eight years, stuck in Step 11, for the last three. Stuck in the belief held by many in AA, that good actions will bring about good thoughts. At the time, I was convinced, that I would only ever experience a spiritual experience, of the “intellectual variety”, if I ever had one at all. And while my life continued to slowly improve, I never had the feeling of being happy, joyous and free. Something was missing.

It takes a Community

Healing from Alcoholism, in my opinion is ultimately a spiritual act. You can not heal yourself, you need a community of friends, fellow travelers and an organized framework, 12 Step programs provide this. A support group, following a basic 12 Step format as opposed to a treatment center, provides the time a person needs, in some cases years, to really discover themselves, to really get inside themselves.

Improve the Steps

The 12-STEPS are a spiritual approach to recovery, the key is finding a “sponsor” who has recovered, and you can do business with. Don’t think that just going to meetings for the rest of your life is going to do the trick. Meetings evolved because of the program, they were never intended to be the program. But I believe that my spiritual experience would have come about much quicker if the !2-Steps had utilized some of the techniques found in modern Humanistic Psychology and in Neural Linguistic Programming. And I’m going to attempt to tell you why.

The Steps

I would have been better served, if someone had explained to me in Step 1, that an unmanageable life, was the cause and effect of holding dis-empowering beliefs. The beliefs I held caused my thoughts, which caused my life experience and that perception is not reality. People respond to their experience not to reality itself. The map is not the territory and we don’t know what we don’t know.

Step 2 that a power greater then myself could restore my sanity.. That we have the mind of the creator and we have the resources we need to change or create.. We are spiritual beings having human experiences.

Step 3 should not be all about God, but instead the difference between being, willful and willing should be examined. Willful being unreasonably stubborn, and inflexible as opposed to being willing to be open, flexible  with cheerful readiness. How willing was I to change my life, the results of my thoughts and beliefs.

In Step 4 and 5, I realized that every thing, both good and bad, that had happened to me, was my fault, that I had pulled all the strings. I entered these steps feeling like a victim and came out as the cause. Locus of control, did life happen to me or did I happen to life.

Steps 6 and 7 are about character defects. It’s in walking the defects back, that you find the beliefs behind them. Impatience is due to the fact that I believed it solved a problem quicker. A superiority complex because I believed I was entitled. Identify and put distance between, to remove.

Steps 8 and 9, Drop the rock. Every behavior has a positive intention. Everyone is doing the best they can with the resources they have available. Hurt people, hurt people. It’s important to forgive yourself before asking for forgiveness.

Steps 10 and 11 be aware of slipping back into old behaviors and thinking. Be present not a day at a time but 5 minutes at a time. Prayer and meditation where you talk to your higher power and listen for an answer. This is a action step were real transformation is possible if your willing to work.

Step 12 help others.

The Addiction is a Symptom

Most people are surprised when they learn that their medicine is only a symptom, to deep psychological issues. To start living I needed to stop condemning, fearing and hating. Recovery from this disease was dependent on my willingness to explore new ways at looking at both myself and the world, while enduring the fear of changing old belief patterns.

Treatment Centers

Treatment Centers and IOP programs fill a necessary step, in the recovery process, by educating the individual that they are suffering from a progressive illness, and that in order to get to the root cause of the problem, a person needs to stop self medicating themselves.

Not the Solution

Treatment Centers because of their expense structures are not equipped to do this and even Intensive Outpatient Programs, can’t for the same reason. What these programs can do is lay the ground work for the individual, educating them that they are suffering from a mental disease. They Think Addiction is the Problem

Most people come to treatment centers and IOP’s for problems they have developed with their medicine of choice, usually Alcohol or Drugs, Food, Gambling and Sex to a lesser degree. They are concerned that their medicine is not only not working, but has become THE problem, which of course is true on one level but misses the point on the other.

What held me back from having a spiritual experience.? The simple fact is that I was suffering from NPD. It’s my opinion that ALL addictions are rooted in NPD.

  • This is a mental condition in which people have a inflated sense of their own importance
  • A deep need for excessive attention and admiration.
  • An inability to form healthy relationships coupled with a lack of empathy for others.
  • Hidden behind a mask of confidence lies a fragile self-esteem, that’s vulnerable to the slightest criticism.

Symptoms include but are not limited to,

  • Exaggerated self importance and sense of entitlement.
  • A need to be recognized and a preoccupation with success power and beauty.
  • A superiority complex and a propensity to take advantage of others, to get what they want.
  • They don’t recognize the needs of others and are often seen as arrogant and haughty. They are very impatient and anger easily.
  • They suffer from significant interpersonal problems and struggle handling stress and change.
  • They are often depressed and moody.
  • They hold in feelings of shame and humiliation.
  • Easily addicted to anything that changes the way they fell

A person suffering from NPD often can’t see any of these symptoms and will deny it to themselves and others if challenged. Often manipulating it in such a way that  accusers back off in frustration.  The causes of NPD are family environment, genetic predisposition and neurobiology problems due to trauma. These symptoms work together or separately to form a belief system that runs against nature and causes a craving for anything that will alleviate the mental anguish.

The most common dis-empowering beliefs are,

  • I must be perfect in all I do.
  • I must be liked and admired by everyone.
  • I need others to tell me I am OK to be OK.
  • People don’t change.
  • People need to make me happy.
  • People are inherently lazy and bad.
  • Problems are a sign of weakness.
  • Fear of the future and an inability to live in the present.
  • Life is a struggle and the universe is a scary place.
  • Complaining works to solve problems.
  • Deny your true feelings, wear a mask. Manipulating people works.
  • Distrust intuition and an inability to make or trust decisions.
  • Don’t trust anybody they will let you down.
  • Blame others for your mistakes.
  • It’s better to be right  then happy.
  • God is judgemental and life is hard full of self-sacrifice.
  • Put your own needs first and win at any cost.
  • Fear of intimacy and the belief that  external things will satisfy internal longings
  • An inability to deal with and a resentment  to authority.
  • Never surrender and debate everything.
  • It’s our addiction that makes us miserable.

Problems with the Truth

A person with NPD, has created so many dis-empowering beliefs, about how the world operates, that it’s hard to pin down, which one in particular, is really holding them back. They are master manipulators and have real problems with the truth. Initially professionals are looking to get this individual past Denial and into Willingness, to at least consider that something is wrong. It starts there.  Acceptance that they have a problem is the first step of the 12- Steps. To quote Martin Luther King Jr. “You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step”

A Spiritual Act

I started by saying that healing from Alcoholism was ultimately a spiritual act and the 12-STEPS have a spiritual approach to recovery. What I have realized after thirty years in and around AA is that the addict has to want to recover. Only when I was physically sober did I start to comprehend that the Alcohol was only the symptom to serious psychological problems. The evidence  that something is amiss in the mind doesn’t correct  the origin of the problem in the heart.

It’s possible for a lifelong affliction to heal rapidly with a mere shift of attitude, but even though the shift may seem to occur in a split second, it may in actuality take years of inner preparation. Then it happened, while sitting on a park bench, looking at nothing in particular, I was suddenly stuck. Loud over and over the thought, Our Habitual Mind, the mind of God, works 24/7 to manifest the beliefs we hold. Our universe, designed to grow man has no choice, but to bring to fruition what the mind manifests. A man is what he believes.
