Category: Changing Dis-Empowering Beliefs

Science of the Mind; Everything you know is wrong

Thoughts are Things

Health and sickness are largely externalizations of our dominant mental and spiritual states. An emotional shock, or a mind filled with thoughts of fear, has been known to cause the momentary stoppage or acceleration of the heart. Physicians now testify that, under emotional stress, particularly anger, the blood leaves a chemical deposit around the joints in the body.

Worry, fear, anger, jealousy, and other emotional conditions, are mental in their nature, and as such are being recognized as the hidden cause of a large part of all the physical suffering to which the flesh is heir. A normal healthy mind reflects itself in a healthy body, and conversely, an abnormal mental state expresses its corresponding condition in some physical condition. Thoughts are things.

Cause and Effect

We are given the power to sit in the midst of our lives and direct their activities. Strife and struggle are unnecessary. We only need to know, but we must know constructively. The material universe was created to manifest what the mind believes. Just so far as we believe upon any condition, past, present or future we are creating chaos, because we are than dealing with conditions (effects) and not the causes. It’s our thinking that cause the effects. And we think the way we do because of our beliefs.

Is it the Ego holding you back

Who told you too old to build muscle tone? Who told you that steam and saunas are bad. Who told you that losing flexibility and balance are just a sign of aging? Whoever it was lying to you, and if you continue to believe it, it’s because you want to believe it. That dis-empowering belief is comfortable and warm and you use to it. The ego is telling you can’t and it won’t, that you’ll look foolish. Who do you think you are? The ego hates change, it fears that change will push him off the stage and you ego loves the stage. And for years all the ego has been doing is making you sick.

Your Mind can grow Stronger so can you

It’s time to take control of you mind. Understanding how our minds work is a science and we are finding out more of how it works on almost a daily basis. Elkhonon Goldberg in his book “The Wisdom Paradox; How you mind can grow stronger as you brain grows older”, discusses how outdated neurological concepts are being disproved on a daily basis. Science has disproved the idea that me are only given so many brain cells and when they die they don’t regenerate new ones. It’s a lie. Reading his book will change the way you think about aging and our thinking capabilities.

60 is the new 50

If,you can buy into that than it isn’t such a leap to think that 70 is the new 60. With the advances in health care and a changing consciousness, especially within the Baby Boomer generation, that you are what you believe you are. And if you not happy you can change starting NOW. I’m passionate about showing my generation that we don’t have to go meekly into the shadows but instead stay in the sunlight of the spirit for many more years than we may have originally thought possible. So if all of a sudden you realize you have another 20 productive years ahead of you, what do you want to do about it? Don’t die with you dream inside you.

Conclusion

Follow me as I challenge dis-empowering beliefs about what it means to grow old in our society today and how some of our so called advocates are nothing more than shills for huge corporate interests. Some first and foremost dis-empowering beliefs we have to deal with, is what it means to be fit.
And how you can go about it, and have fun.

Limiting Beliefs

One of the things that makes life worth living, is showing people, especially Baby Boomers, how to overcome limiting beliefs. Having goals and striving to attain them no matter your age, adds purpose and meaning to your life. To be without personal goals is to live a groundhog existence, where every day is the same as the day before. Days filled with meaningless activities designed to eat time, is like dying a slow death.

Watching days go bye, endlessly fighting that nagging feeling that there has to be more. Constantly at war within yourself, feeling that there has to be more to life. Fighting that nagging feeling of despair that you’ve left something undone. To live out your “retirement” with these types of thoughts going through your head, is stressful not to mention hard work.

To watch TV endlessly, constantly comparing yourself to both real and fictional characters. Being contemptible of the real people, sharing their beliefs and viewpoints, while being sympathetic and identifying with the fictional characters whose make believe lives help you to escape, even if its just for a few hours, the mundane monotony of yours. Believing that this is all that your capable of, sitting in front of a box full of illusions.

You Should be on TV

Ever consider why it isn’t you up on that screen, reading that script, or pontificating about something you believe in. Your just as good-looking, even better than some, and your opinion is just as viable, if not more so than theirs. So why are you here and not there? It’s because you believe, deep down that your either not smart enough, not good enough or not deserving enough to be up there.

You have become willing to sit idly bye and watch others manifest their dreams, while yours stay buried deep in the recesses of your mind. It’s only because you’ve convinced yourself that your not capable. For years, you’ve bombarded your subconscious mind with negative self talk that your not enough. Even now your subconscious is telling you your not healthy enough, or smart enough or deserving enough. Yet everyday you watch people, just like you, manifest their dreams, right in front of you.

What’s their Secret?

They have empowering beliefs about themselves and the world. For a number of reasons they have formed empowering beliefs, where you have formed dis-empowering ones. They seem to know, what a lot of us have forgotten. That we are creations of a divine intelligence built in its image, with all its capabilities and talents. That we have been placed in a Universe that has one main purpose, and that’s to grow man. Given free will to believe whatever we want, our divine mind works 24/7 manifesting that belief into the neutral Universe, that’s been designed to provide whatever we believe we are worthy of.

When did you Start Believing

Whenever you decided to believe the dis-empowering beliefs you been holding is unimportant. What’s important today be that you are aware. And with awareness can come change. Your divine mind is capable of doing anything you believe it can do. Once you realize that the life your living is because you chose it, you can choose to change it. if, your not happy than your not living God’s Will for yourself. God’s Will is for you to be happy and grow prosperous.

Why does a tree grow effortlessly, in a forest, that from above looks like a massive parkland designed by master gardeners. It’s because it has no dis-empowering beliefs about being a tree. Why don’t you see any starving birds. They don’t worry about the Universe not providing they believe it will.

if, your not happy than change it. Stop beating yourself up that its taken so long, realize that everything that has happened in your life had a reason, and it got you here, now. Be thankful, its part of the journey, your journey. It doesn’t matter when you wake up, just that you wake up.

Stop Limiting Yourself

Limiting yourself and living an unfulfilled life is actually harder than manifesting the life of your dreams. To constantly be judging and comparing yourself to others is extremely hard and destroys your body. Instead of wasting time doing that, look for what your passionate about. What gives you pleasure and enjoyment, what would seem like play to you than figure out a way to make money doing it. Allan Watts said ” that the goal of every man is to get paid to play”. Find that passion and show others how they can do it to if they believe it strong enough.

Stop being the victim to your own dis-empowering beliefs. Design a life that makes you happy. You can start now. Change happens in the now, start small and work outwards.

Where to Begin

Start with your words, both how you speak to yourself and others. Watch for those self-defeating terms, and eliminate any demeaning comments. By being aware of your words and how you’ve’e been talking to yourself and others, you can shift the most powerful thing you have into your favor, your word.

Start by saying the opposite of what you normally say, start asking people how their day is going, and be interested in how they respond, how they sound, take notice. Start looking everyone in the eye and start forcing yourself to smile.

Stop Assuming

Stop making assumptions that you know what others are thinking. Stay focused on your own thinking. Think how can I be of service, how can I make this time better. How can I ease someone burdens.Be that ray of sunshine in a cloudy day. Quit the debating society, stop being so concerned about the world out there and worry about the world in here, your mind.

Quite the static, be aware of discordant sounds and noise create peace. Start noticing what brings negativity to your mind and start eliminating it, item by item.

Don’t take it Personal

Become aware that anything anybody says or does to you is’isn’t about you, its about them. They are playing their role and your only a character in their movie. If they have decided your the villain in their show there is nothing you can do to change the directors mind. Stay true to yourself and try not to get sucked into their drama. Again it does’isn’t have anything to do with you, its all an illusion.

Do your Best

You can only try to do your best. Realizing that we are by nature imperfect. We learn by experience, and some lessons take a long time, a very long time. But when we are ready than we will know. Don’t get down because you continue to fail to live up to your expectations, understand that the most critical judge you ever face is yourself. Missing the mark doesn’t mean your bad it only shows that your human. Realize that and take better aim. With this awareness you give yourself space. Notice how impatient you are with yourself

It’s all a part of the journey. Our imperfections are how we judge perfection. Without them we would have no way to measure, and we would not see growth. We all grow at our own rate, wishing it could be different isn’t going to make us grow any faster, as a matter of fact it retards growth. Take sustenance in progress, be aware how far you’ve’e come from where you were and enjoy the journey.

Conclusion

They say the worst thing you can do is die with your dream inside you. Being aware that the only one stopping you is that person in the mirror. Isn’t it about time that you and him start working together?

Mind-Body Connection

The Mind-Body Connection

Last Update: September 26, 2018

Is Exercise Enough?

It’s long been known and accepted that physical activity releases endorphins, which can help increase a person’s sense of well-being. This is especially true for Baby Boomers. Having a fitness routine focused on building muscle tone not only builds your body, but helps your mind. The more I worked on improving my body, the more I realized that I needed to work on my mind as well. When I first considered the idea of meditation, while sitting in the sauna after a work out, I thought it would be just a matter of sitting still and shutting down my mind for ten minutes or so, boy was I mistaken.

I Couldn’t Meditate

I was totally dismayed with myself, not only could I not sit still for even 5 minutes, but my mind refused to shut down at all. I remember just trying to count to sixty and not being able to do it. It’s then that I realized that meditation was going to be a lot harder for me then I anticipated.

Quiet the Mind

In order for me to start getting a handle on meditation I had to think of times when my mind was relatively quiet. I thought it was when I was sitting in the sauna or alone in the park, walking my dogs, but as I started watching my thoughts while doing these things, I realized that my mind was constantly jumping from one topic to another, and going into the future or revisiting the past, over and over again. The more I started looking at my thinking the more evident it became that not only couldn’t I control it but I spent very little time in the present, I was never in the now. It was either in the past or the future.

Ego Loves The Past

In doing some follow up reading about staying in the present, I stumbled on the role of the ego. I came to find out that it was my ego, that loves to replay the past, wishing it could be different, or dreading the future, with all its what if’s, and hope it don’t s. But I don’t want to digress into a discussion about the ego, I’ll save that for a future blog.

The Importance of Golf

But I really had to think about a time when was I present. And it dawned on me, that the only time I was really in the present was when I was playing golf. I had known for a long time that if I didn’t maintain concentration on what I was doing while playing, I couldn’t hit the ball. You have to be centered and focused on what your doing, totally in the now, in order to play well.

The Starting Point

Thinking about what it is that your doing, and concentrating on the now, is the first step in learning how to quiet the mind. If your can find that, your have your starting point.

It Starts with Awareness

Once I started to be aware of my thinking, a whole new perspective opened up for me. I realized for the first time that I had an undisciplined mind. A mind that jumped from thought to thought, without any regard for how I felt, I was just along for the ride. This awareness, this change in perspective was Hugh, and its from this beginning, that I’ve been able to start getting a handle on my thinking.

Most Thoughts Are Repetitive

Realizing that a majority of my thoughts were just repetitive and often problematic, has allowed me to take control of them, now when they come up, I just let them pass, saying to myself, I’ve already thought about that enough, its only my ego at work. This little trick has improved my mood immensely.

Negative Self-Talk

I also started paying attention to my negative self talk and started to be aware of how self-defeating and non-productive it was. I started to think about the saying, “If your had a friend that talked to you the way your talk to yourself, would they be your friend?/” and realized that the answer would be no.

New Attitude

This awareness gave me a new attitude and it all started with exercise. By working on your body, you start paying attention to your mind. They go hand in hand, body-mind, as your start feeling better, your start thinking better. The experts are going to tell your that it takes hard work and dedication. I’m here to show your how just starting a simple exercise program, to regain muscle tone, can lead to an awareness that anything is possible. Take care of your body and the mind will follow.
